Summer Lovin’… it was a blast.
I know Summer technically wrapped up a week ago, but I think it’s understandable why I may have held on for a little while longer. Fall is a crisp seasonal baby, and I’ll be cozying up with warm cider and apple donuts with the best of them, but I owe the warmth of Summer a proper farewell.
Picture it: 2021… we’re still in a whole panny boo nanny, BUT… the Covid-19 vaccine is available and LIVING LIFE responsibly has been encouraged for mental and emotional health. So, my dear friends, I did just that.
Let me show you how…
Work. Travel. Move. RINSE but lawd don’t repeat! This summer was quite honestly a blur of time for me due to several reasons. July-Early Sept STRETCHED me because I was leading a rather big work project that required travel and cross-departmental collaboration; I of course needed to hop a few flights just in case another city needed me ;-); and to top it all off, I decided to level up my living arrangements.
Sounds fun, amirite?? The payoff of it all was worth it in the end, but Big Brit was Big Stressed and I had my fair share of breakdown moments. Capricorns have feelings too!
But I’m glad I was able to celebrate life with my people, show myself a bit further what I’m made of, all while giving myself a dose of the GOOD LIFE. Part of the good life transition for me has been prioritizing mental and emotional wellness. We are NOT ROBOTS and we can not run off grit, ambition, and responsibilities alone. Part of releasing the stress I put on myself has been leaning more on my friends and partner. It’s OK to ask for help! I also finally got my act together and researched a new therapist. Did y’all know that not doing it all, is pretty much the key to doing better? WHODATHUNKIT.
But as always, I like to give y’all the real insight into how I do what I do. I’m no expert, but #BritBeLiving. Part of how I’ve begun to lay my overworked, exhausted, and quite frankly, BURNT OUT, burdens down have been to PRIORITIZE. Everything can’t be done at once, and to be fair to us all, we don’t need to do EVERYTHING at all.
MENTAL HEALTH IS WEALTH.
I’ve researched therapists several ways but these have been helpful! Also, if you have the benefit of insurance, call or check your benefits site to see service providers available in your network. THEY ARE THERE TO HELP YOU, BOO.
MOVING ON UP!
I will NEVER move again without using a broker (apt or home). I happened to find the wonderful team at Maven through their Youtube show LiveChi and the game was CHANGED. I love my new building (Brit Be Moving blog post is IN THE WORKS) and the process was the easiest it’s ever been when looking for housing in a city like Chicago. My broker Ratanya learned my likes, dislikes really quickly and even helped pushed me a bit out of my comfort zone to find a place that perfectly fits ME. With a rent discount at that! Praises went up!
STAY ON TASK!
Made a list, checked it thrice.
Anylist! A handy, dandy app where you can make whatever list your heart desires and share it with others as needed. When I feel overwhelmed, list-making calms me because it’s a valid activity that will help me GET THINGS DONE.
So that’s all folks. I came, I went, I was not conquered. Let’s consider the above my goodbye wave to summer. Till next time, #BritBeLiving and I hope you are too.
