Date Night Done Right

I’m old school. I still like flowers and real dates.
— A wise, yet unknown person.

In the age of virtual EVERYTHING, which can lead to a digital disconnect at times, I think a good old-fashioned date night still holds relational weight. Yet I’ve heard from plenty of friends and experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to get one scheduled and decide what to do or where to go. So why not provide a little how-to for planning an A+ date night.

Let’s dive in and canoodle shall we!

Make. A. List.

If my last post didn’t emphasize it enough, let me do so here again. LISTS ARE YOUR FRIENDS.

Have you ever seen a restaurant while driving but can’t recall the name or location later on? Sucks, doesn’t it? Well, a handy dandy list would save you from such disappointment. And it’s fun because it provides a bit of anticipation. I started a list of places I wanted to check out well before meeting someone I wanted to try places with but just so happens, the people who eat well together, apparently stay together.

Make it a joint activity! Add to the list as you go and when date night comes around, you won’t have to scroll through yelp for long.

I also recommend making date activity lists as well. That new tri-level arcade? Why not?! Dating should have a healthy amount of fun, so may we all find more of that!

SCHEDULE THE TIME.

While the general desire to spend time with someone you care about may be present, desire won’t mean much if you’re not making space for that time. Life be living so we have to be intentional with dedicated moments to get to know our chosen people. So… PENCIL IT IN.

While no one wants to feel overscheduled, we also don’t want to neglect those feel-good moments either. Add in another healthy dose of anticipation, and a pre-scheduled date night will GETYOURIGHT.

Be Adventurous!

Switching things up is from your typical date activity can really rev up the energy of the time spent together. A nice dinner will remain undefeated, but there’s more to a date than a movie or walk in the park, despite what the romcoms might have us to believe. I’m all for something fun and engaging, so here’s a few of the activities that have made for fun times out :-).

Comedy/Improv

  • The Second City

    • Together At Last made for a hilarious and satirically timely improv show.

Magic/Illusion

Upbeat Activity Rooms

Make it a group event!

While every date night can’t be a double or triple date if you’re truly looking to get to know someone on a more intimate level, you can switch it up from time to time, while asking your friends to tag along. Getting to enjoy your special someone, while hanging with others, can be a surefire way to bring some bright new energy to the norm.

All in all, there’s plenty of ways to make date night special again. Don’t sleep on them!
