When life has LIFED…
I actually think it’s WILD that it’s December 1 but what is time but just a fantasy of our active imaginations? My grandmother once told me that after a certain age, the years simply fly by. Well, Granny Maxine, it’s moving at the speed of light now.
That said, I think it’s prime time to reflect on this year a bit.
What’s the half-life of a fast life? I guess we shall see…
2024 has felt like an exercise in just showing up. I don’t necessarily feel like I had any great wins, TBH. And that’s OK.
I’m proud of making it THROUGH.
This time last year, I was two weeks from being laid off. I took the HR call a few days before Christmas and on the same day as my first live show. WHEW. Less than 4 months later I had a new role, but even that has been an adjustment because corporate life as a Black Woman is TOUGH. I’ll be honest about that in a blog to come. Just know, I don’t look like what I’ve been through but I feel it all the same.
I also recognize that success is relative. I am not comparing my life to anyone else’s because THIS MY ISH… I’m the only one living it!
I’ve had to reset and recalibrate several times this year. I picked myself up and kept trying and here we are. 11 months down, and one more left to LOCK IN.
But I wouldn’t be Brit if I wasn’t actively LIVING. So here’s a snapshot of what I did this year!
Can I be transparent for a moment? I like what I’ve built so far with this platform.
It’s been piece by piece, and some may even say slow. But Brit Be Living is about intentionality, authenticity, and SHOWING UP and SPEAKING OUT. I had the chance to highlight that further with a partnership with Black Film Club Chicago.
We came together twice during the year to highlight their organization, our shared missions, the unique efforts across the Black creative community, and to shine a light on Black inspiration in the food and beverage space. We had a time, several times!
And your girl got to do what I love most. CHAT PEOPLE UP.
If you haven’t seen it yet… go watch my springtime interview, drop a comment, or give a like. I appreciate every single one of you who reads these snippets from my brain, has subscribed to the mailing list, and shares across social. We’re in this together and I look forward to connecting more, SOON and VERY SOON.
And now… here we all are looking at the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025 squarely in the eye. It feels different this go around. Many of us may feel a bit tattered around our edges. We’re battle-worn. But we’re also survivors. And survivors get to live out their next chapters how they see fit.
So as we welcome a new year, I hope you all know that you’re worthy of speaking your mind, and finding what works best for you in this lifetime. Don’t shy away from sharing yourselves with others. Community is built upon that.
Go live my friends <3.
