Brit’s Been Outside
Concerts. Comedy. Community.
OH MY!
I won’t even hold y’all. This summer DID NOT summer quiiiiite like summers of years past. Perhaps it’s a byproduct of getting older. Maybe it’s the state of the world. A lot has been happening personally and all around, so honestly, ya girl has just been doing what I had to get to get by.
But life is still FOR LIVING, and when able to I got to the FUN.
Said fun included but certainly not limited to:
Durand Bernarr “Wanderlust”
Durand is a STAR. Full stop. Everything about his live shows make you want more. We flew down to Orlando and made a quick summer trip of the last leg of his tour stop and he did his big one! If you haven’t seen him live… or even listened to his music, do yourself a favor AND TUNE IN.
Janelle Monae “Age of Pleasure”
I’ve been a fan since her tuxedo-wearing first few album days and I’m still a fan all these years in. This latest album should be played straight through. SKIP FOR WHAT?! It’s another testament to living life on your own terms and welcoming the people and experiences that bring pleasure to your doorstep.
Quick mention that I am absolutely approaching the age where I need a seat for a concert and I don’t want to be crowded like a sardine! Need my own venue!
Lil Rel Howery “I Said What I Said”
Truth be told, I knew he was funny on TV and in movies but I was a bit behind and had never seen his standup. He’s good. A solidly funny uncle from the best city in the Midwest.
Again, these venues need some TLC. Folding chairs with no covers??
Dave Chappelle “LIVE”
This was a day of impulsive buy that I do not regret. He’s a legend for a reason. Do I think he can make better alphabet jokes? OF COURSE. He’s showing his age by poking inquisitive fun at one of the biggest bears in the proverbial room. But do I think there’s something to be said for cancel culture being adjacent to social bandwagons and whiteness? YUP.
AND I DID A THING.
I hosted my first event!
Brit Be Here, Meet Me There.
The Brit Be Living sphere is a way for me to open my creative wings. First up was this very blog. Then I started the YouTube interviews. And finally, I’ve brought in-person events to fruition as an opportunity to bring people together to expand our communities.
On Sept. 21st, I brought new and old friends to one of my fave cocktail bars, Beatnik West Town where we connected over tasty drinks and even better conversation. I was able to speak more about what truly inspired me to create Brit Be Living, and it was a special gift to me to see people I know and enjoy getting to know each other 🥹.
There will be more events, but for this first round, I’m so PROUD of myself for once again doing what I’ve dreamt of, and also GRATEFUL to those who came out to support me.
If you want to get the invite to the next Brit Be Here, Meet Me There, SIGN UP FOR THE MAILING LIST TODAY! And if you know someone I should interview, LET ME KNOW!
And please, every share, comment, and like continues to support me, the living, breathing, growing Brit, and I appreciate it all!
